Border 2 Movie Review

For me Chetan Anand’s ‘Haqeeqat’ and JP Dutta’s ‘Border’ are the best war films in Hindi mainstream cinema. So, when a standalone sequel which reminds us about the legacy of ‘Border’ is announced a debate starts running in your mind and heart.

And when you come to know that ‘Border 2’ is directed by Anurag Singh who has a fabulous record in the Punjabi film industry and Sunny Deol is there standing as the Lion your expectations run high.

So, we get ‘Border 2’ with Varun Dhawan coming out from his comfort zone, Diljit Dosanjh in his element and Ahan Shetty having an opportunity of a lifetime in a bigger and better (budget wise) ‘Border 2’.

However, a towering super star with a deafening roar like Sunny Deol needs no budget because he has all the power in his eyes, shoulder, that dhai kilo ka haath and of course those lungs (pehpada hai ya loudspeaker) to make the young jawan actors sound like two-year-old babies.

‘Border 2’ begins with Sunny Deol and ends with Sunny Deol and when he shoots down a few Pakistani intruders trying to cross Indian borders and yells at the Pakistani officer watching the action from the other side its SHOWTIME.

Pakistani army launch Operation Changez and in a non-linear narration which movies from past to present we see how Varun, Diljit, Ahan and Sunny fight the enemy bravely as we also get flashbacks of their personal life and  camaraderie dating back to the National Defense Academy, where Fateh Singh (Sunny Deol) has trained Hoshiar Singh (Varun Dhawan), Nirmal Singh (Diljit Dosanjh) and Mahendra Rawat (Ahan Shetty).

As said earlier, ‘Border 2’ scores in its human emotions – the bonding between Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty comes with good humour plus in between the brotherhood the romance of Varun with Medha Rana and Diljit with Sonam Bajwa gets established with an adorable chemistry.

On the other hand, the strong bonding of Fateh Singh with his wife played by Mona Singh also adds to the emotional quotient.

The emotions get heightened when the iconic songs from ‘Border’ – ‘sandeshe aate hai’ and ‘toh chalu’ (with new lyrics) are played during pivotal moments.

And the dialogues of course, Sumit Arora does a superb job.

‘Border 2’ is an emotionally charged war drama where we see the Indian brave hearts fighting against all odds against the Pakistani Army which is well prepared, well equipped and much more in numbers.

‘Border 2’ is also a rare show of heroism and show of incredible and unparallel velour.

Sunny Deol leads the way and stands tall in a performance that will be remembered for long.

Varun Dhawan is very good. Diljit Dosanjh is fabulous. Ahan Shetty makes a great impression. From the ladies Mona Singh gets some meat in her role and she delivers perfectly.
