Renowned art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai was found dead in his studio in Karjat. He was 58.

According to reports, Nitin Desai had allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday, August 2 at his studio located in Karjat, 80 km away from Mumbai.

The cause of Nitin Desai’s death is not known, according to reports Nitin Desai failed to answer knocks on the door and when the door was broken his body was found hanging from the ceiling fan. After which the police have been informed, the police have removed the body and sent it for post-mortem.

Nitin Chandrakant Desai was born in Dapoli, Maharashtra on January 25, 1965, and began his career as an assistant art director on the television film Tamas (1987). He later worked as an assistant art director on television series such as Kabir (1988-1990) and Chanakya (1991). Nitin Desai worked in notable television series in those times like Bharat Ek Khoj (1992-1993), Kora Kagaz (1993), and Swabhimaan (1995-1996). He made his Bollywood debut as an art director with the film Parinda(1989) his significant work as art director includes 1942 A Love Story (1993) Khamoshi: The Musical (1995), Maachis (1996), Salaam Bombay (1998), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000     ), The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002), Munnabhai M.B.B.S (2003), Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), Once Upon a Time in Mumbai (2010), Balgandharva (2011), Panipat (2019).

As production designer, Nitin Desai significant films are Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Lagaan (2001), Devdas (2002), Swades (2004), Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), Lage Raho Munna Bhai, (2006),

Marigold (2007), Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), Fashion (2008), Ishqiya (2010), Zapatlela 2 (2013), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Paurashpur (2020) Web series.

Nitin Desai won National Awards for his work in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (1999), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (2000), Lagaan (2002), Devdas (Devdas).

In 2016, Nitin Desai was awarded the Padma Shri.

Nitin Desai founded ND Studios, a film and television production facility in Karjat, Maharashtra, and produced the film Desh Devi (2002).
