Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire review: A Bloodily Intense Action Explosion

What: Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire – starring the rebel star Prabhas in lead marking his first collaboration with the ace blockbuster director Prashanth Neel along with Prithviraj Sukumaran is a bloodily solid and intense action explosion.

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire movie synopsis

Based on Prashant Neel’s 2014 debut film Ugramm. Salaar : Part 1 – Ceasefire is set in the fictional city of Khansaar and designed as an epic action extravaganza, Salaar : Part 1 – Ceasefire is the story of two childhood friends Devaratha "Deva" (Prabhas) and Vardha (Prithviraj Sukumaran).

Vardha’s father Raja Mannar (Jagapathi Babu) is the King of Kansaar and Deva also has strong connection with Kansaar.

After chain of events, Vardha and Deva get separated.

Years after, the kidnapping of Aadhya Krishnakanth (Shruthi Hassan) brings them back and the secrets, the connection and the reason why Aadhya is used as the sheep to catch the Lion gets unveiled in a highly octane, immersive and intense action bonanza filled with blood.

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire movie review

What happens when you cook rice grown in Prabhas land in a vessel made from KGF and sprinkle some Game Of Thrones inspired salt, pepper and sauce with added rugged and rustic Malayalam spice ordered by Prithviraj?,

Answer - A bloodily massy violent action explosion like Salaar : Part 1 – Ceasefire takes place that sees the rebel star Prabhas in all fire and rage along with Prithiviraj in his subdued controlled best.

Prashanth Neel gives the fans of Prabhas especially along with Prithiviraj moments to cheer, whistle and rejoice as the brotherhood of the two explodes on screen and hits the spot as and when desired.

As the debate on screen violence, gore and excess blood continues blaming the ‘Animal’ instincts of filmmakers, hard core action buffs will have a treat with Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire its mind billowingly terrific.

Anbariv creates exceptional action sequences that are bound to go well with the masses – the action sequence with Prabhas slicing and cutting people like carrots and tomatoes with an axe. The first action sequence, the interval point, the climax when Prithviraj also jumps into action and sways are enough for your money’s worth in any part of the world.

Of course, you must be okay with such bloodshed on screen and have enjoyed John Wick, KGF part 1 and/or the recent Animal.

Written by Prashanth Neel with dialogues by Sandeep Reddy Bandla, Hanumaan Choudary and Dr. Suri, Prashanth Neel narration is nonlinear (which is now a routine). The highlight is the treatment, and the brilliance lies in its cinematography (Bhuvan Gowda – stunning), atmosphere (Shivakumar – production designer – fine job) and exceptionally designed mass-oriented action sequences (Anbariv). The rugged, grey feel is maintained and the rustic mood never goes off. The BGM is fabulous, the smart editing by Ujwal Kulkarni serves the purpose.

Performance

Prabhas’s rugged intense no-nonsense avatar is outstanding. Never leaving the skin of his character, the rebel star as the killing machine is set to roar and rule.

Prithviraj in his controlled nuance gives a fantastic performance and shares great chemistry with Prabhas onscreen.

Shruti Haasan makes her mark in whatever scope she gets.

Jagapathi Babu is fine. Bobby Simha leaves an impression. Shriya Reddy is good. Ramana leaves an impression. Easwari Rao is competent. Veteran Tinu Anand makes his presence felt.

Flaws

There are many characters and the main lead Deva and his friend Vardha lack shades, they are mostly one dimensional, humour is missing. The drama could have been tighter.

Final words

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire will see Prabhas making his fans and die-hard action buffs dancing with joy. Such mass-oriented action extravaganzas are least bothered whether logics, morals, etc, the situation don,t need much explanation. What works is the rustic action-packed rhythm backed by the power of a huge star like Prabhas that creates its own space resulting in magic. Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is a bloodily intense action hoot.

When is Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryanga Parvam coming… the stage is set…
