Housefull 5 review: Ayyyy.. Tum Thak Chuke Ho
‘Housefull 5’: Baring a couple of gags, comedy cries loud in the fifth installment of the crowd favorite ‘Housefull’ franchise. Sorry to say that there is neither any improvement nor much attempt to be at par with the previous four installments which were better in their entertaining LOL buffoonery. ‘Housefull 5’ is mostly humorless where tastelessness is unbound for a good two hours and forty-five minutes.
Housefull 5 movie synopsis
UK’s seventh richest man Ranjeet Dobriyal (Ranjeet) is set to celebrate his 100th birthday in his luxurious cruise. Ranjeet suddenly dies in his cruise. Ranjeet in his will has made Jolly – the son from his first wife Shakuntala Devi (Archana Puran Singh) heir of his wealth. Jolly is expected to arrive the next day on the cruise but surprisingly - three people claiming to be the real Jolly arrive with their spouses. First to arrive is Jalabuddin aka Jolly (Riteish Deshmukh) with his wife Zara (Sonam Bajwa), followed by Jalbhushan aka Jolly (Abhishek A Bachchan) with his wife Sashikala (Jacqueline Fernandez) and Julius aka Jolly (Akshay Kumar) with his wife Kanchi (Nargis Fakhri).
Ranjeet’s son Dev (Fardeen Khan), CFO Maya (Chitrangda Singh), COO Bedi (Dino Morea), CMO Shiraz (Shreyas Talpade), along with Captain Sameer (Nikitin Dheer), cruise officer Batuk Patel (Johny Lever) and chef Aakhri Pasta (Chunky Panday) including the lawyer Lucy (Soundarya Sharma) are confused. As the confusion gets wilder, a murder takes place. Two cops Bhidu (Sanjay Dutt) and Baba (Jackie Shroff) arrive to investigate. What happens next? Who is the real Jolly, who is the killer? forms the crux of film.
What happens when you try to raise guffaws but they fall flat, the crowd favourite ‘Housefull’ franchise initiated by director Sajid Khan, taken over by writers-directors Sajid-Farhad now in the hands of director Tarun Mansukhani on a story and screenplay by producer Sajid Nadiadwala with dialogues and additional writing by Farhad Samji and the director, the entertaining madcap buffoonery is missed.
Is the lack of LOL moments reason behind the touted two climaxes I don,t know but the murder mystery does add some novelty but its not enough. ‘Housefull’ is known for having a crowd of actors but in the fifth installment ‘Housefull5’ it has almost half of the industry doing their bit, in this helluva large and loud crowd, we see a talent like Shreyas Talpade reduced. In ‘Housefull 5’ anything goes in the name of comedy. Obviously, you should not ask for logic in this screenplay which plays at the directors will or actors available dates. The humour in this suppose rib tickler pays tribute to Dada Kondke’s double meaning style no harm in targeting the front benchers, then why this ultra-chick stylish sets and a luxurious cruise setting.
Technically not much to rave apart from the A grade production values, the movie looks rich but the music deserves mention. The music by Yo Yo Honey Singh, White Noise Collectives and Kratex is energetic, especially ‘Lal Pari’ stays with you and the picturization is fabulously hyper-energetic.
Akshay Kumar is as usual continuing his sandy act but this time he is controlled and restrained.
Riteish Deshmukh provides laughs.
Abhishek Bachchan is playfully funny.
The ladies - Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Soundarya Sharma and Chitrangda Singh add to the glamour quotient and make their presence felt.
Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff are okay, honestly, they didn’t get much to do.
Nana Patekar leaves his mark.
Good support comes from Fardeen Khan, Dino Morea, Chunky Pandey, Ranjeet, Johny Lever, Nikitin Dheer and Akashdeep Sabir.
As said earlier Shreyas Talpade is wasted.
I have enjoyed the previous installments and sorry to use the word ‘survived’ for the fifth – ‘Housefull 5’, beneath all the hype and two climax gimmick the movie failed to ‘tick’le my funny bones as it was expected to do, ‘Housefull 5’ has the mind, body but the heart is empty here.
Going with a highly disappointing 2 stars
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Warda Nadiadwala and Firuzi Khan made under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. ‘Housefull 5’ is running in theatres.
