Veteran actor Naeem Sayyed aka Junior Mehmood dies after fighting cancer

Famous child artiste, actor, comedian of the 60’s 70’s and filmmaker Naeem Sayeed popularly known as junior Mehmood is no more.

Junior Mehmood died at the age of 67 last night. He was sixty-seven and was battling with fourth stage stomach cancer.

Junior Mehmood worked in around two hundred and sixty-five films and also produced and directed six Marathi movies in a career spanning five decades.

According to reports, two weeks ago it was revealed that he was fighting stage four cancer and his condition worsened last night. He died at his residence in Mumbai.

Junior Mehmood real name was Naeem Sayyed and it was the legendary comedian Mehmood Ali who gave him the sgae/screen name – Junior Mehmood as he copied Mehmood brilliantly especially his iconic number Tane Din Danana Hum Kaale Hai Toh Kya Hua Dilwale Hai from the classic suspense murder mystery Gumnam (1965).

Junior Mehmood played significant roles in blockbusters like Kati Patang, Mera Naam Joker, Parvarish, Do Aur Do Paanch, Bramachari, Carvan, Geet Gaata Chal. Hare Rama Hare Krishna, and on television in derails like Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara, Ek Rishta Saajhedari ka and Tenali Rama TV Serial on SAB TV (2019) as Mulla Nasiruddin.

Junior Mehmood started his career as a child actor with the film 'Naunihal', starring Sanjeev Kumar, veteran actor Balraj Sahni and Indrani Mukherjee.

As he news of Junior Mehmood illness spread, comedian and actor Johnny Lever along with Jeetendra met him. Reportedly actor Sachin Pilgaonkar also met Junior Mehmood.

Junior Mehmood made six Marathi film that includes the superhit Adla Badli (2008) starring Sachin Pilgaonkar and Ashik Saraf in lead. The other Marathi films that Junior Mehmood made were Ardha Gangu Ardha Gondya, Tulas Aali Ghara, Karmyog, Maskari and Pagalpan.

His funeral will be held at around 12 pm at the Juhu Muslim Cemetery in Santa Cruz (West) in Mumbai where his mother was also buried.
