Obsession review: When a strangest and wackiest dream meets a bizarre and biting truth
‘Obsession’ - when your wish gets fulfilled but lands you in a nightmare of terrifying proportions!
Little does Bear( Michael Johnston) know that his tryst with the 'One Wish Willow' and wishing reciprocation from his deep desire, Nikki(Inde Navarratte) would turn into tormenting and horrifying consequences.
Debutant director and YouTube content creator Curry Barker (he's just 26) has struck gold at the box office with his inventive genius and drawing eclectic performances from Inde and Johnston.
Coming from the Blumhouse Productions and made in a shoestring budget, ‘Obsession’ is relentlessly freakish, deliciously diabolic in its premise, sprinkled with abundant jump scares and creepy in its setting.
The second hour leans more towards body gore and scatological filth, but that's justified when it tries to substantiate its title. However, in terms of inventive horror, I would still rate 2025's ‘Weapons’ and ‘Together’ higher.
Obsession movie review – final words
It left me baffled and amused. The conclusion is open to multiple interpretations. And the junta is enjoying the hauntingly disturbing elements blended in it. No wonder, its running packed house in theatres.
Going with 3.5 stars out of 5.
