What: Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga – starring Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal a heist drama on Netflix helmed by Ajay Singh treads turf that is both familiar and fresh staying loyal to the heist genre.

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga movie review

Marking the third collaboration of Netflix with Maddock after the fine success of Mimi and Dasvi, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is a heist thriller drama starring Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal directed by the 2018 Marathi entertainer Looose Control fame Ajay Singh.

Ajay Singh who was the assistant in the acclaimed Aamir (2008) helmed by Raj Kumar Gupta starring the television heartthrob of that time Rajeev Khandelwal lacks the decisively sweeping edge that can make this film the talk of the town.

However, the crowd pleasing narrative which even though at times turns extra superficial offers enough twists and turns especially in the snaky plot and interesting characterization with a decent atmosphere guarantees pleasure to the genre buffs.

More serious critics/viewers are likely to point out the obvious cinematic liberties, the target genre audience in the urban area will be happy to lap it up.

More of the plot and less of texture and style, the unfolding of events is the key hook though the manner is routine.

The heart of the story is the equation between the prime characters Neha Grover (Yami Gautam) and diamond merchant Ankit Sethi (Sunny Kaushal) that changes and successfully makes the audience guessing.

Though Ankit Sethi’s character lacks a proper back story and motive, Yami Gautam’s graph is much more convincing.

Sharad Kelkar as the intelligence officer is a pleasant surprise but we needed more of him.

Unfortunately for me the movie ended at the pre climax point and as a result it appeared bit lengthy and the end shot lacked the required teeth.

Technically is fine but I missed a fab background

Performance

Yami Gautam does it again. After Lost, this is will also feature in her major highlight of the year. Her transformation is fantastic.

Sunny Kaushal is very good and brings that uncanny mysterious vulnerability to his character.

Sharad Kelkar shines in a limited role

Indraneil Sengupta is quite effective in a short role.

Final words

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is an Intriguing desi heist thriller with snaky twists and turns which can be enjoyed without comparing it with Tarantino’s Guy Ritchie of the world.

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is streaming on Netflix from March 24, 2023.
