Hum Do Hamare Do movie review: Aakhirkar Ek Pyaara Pariwar

What: The sweet Barfi pair Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon reunion tries to bring new light on the family premise in Guajarati fame Abhishek Jain’s Hindi directorial. But the movie belongs to the veterans Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah who give a feel good twist to love and parenthood.

Hum Do Hamare Do movie synopsis

Dhruv (Rajkummar Rao) and Aanya (Kriti Sanon) are in love. Problem arises when Purushottam Mishra (Paresh Rawal) and Dipti Kashyap (Ratna Pathak Shah) come in the picture as parents of Dhruv, creating confusion.

OTT movie Hum Do Hamare Do review

Director Abhishek Jain (known for Kevi Rite Jaish, Bey Yaar, and Wrong Side Raju) brings forward the debate on what you call a family in the template of a feel good family rom com.

Concept wise to a certain extent Abhishek Jain’s Hum Do Hamare Do is Amit Ravindernath Sharma’s all round winner Badhai Ho from the other side.

Badhai Ho had parents of a grown adult child on the verge of marriage finding that joy of becoming biological parents again. While Hum Do Hamare Do has a young couple on the verge of getting married finding a new joy in adopting an elder couple as their parent.

Writer director Abhishek Jain along with co writer Deepak Venkateshan keep it simple, the prime characters are nicely established.

However, the minutes are missing and the movie has glaring flaws. Only when the characters of Purushottam Mishra (Paresh Rawal) and Dipti Kashyap (Ratna Pathak Shah) come to Dhruv’s place it gains momentum and manages couple of highlights.

The drunken scene of Paresh Rawal and the office scene by Ratna Pathak Shah elevate the movie from mediocrity.

The core issue of family and how thicker is blood in reality pops up but is not deftly handled.

The first half is uneven and as said earlier momentum gains considerably when Purushottam Mishra (Paresh Rawal) and Dipti Kashyap (Ratna Pathak Shah) meet the parents of Kirti Sanon played by Manu Rishi Chadha and Prachee Shah Paandya.

Performance

Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon do their part as expected nothing striking. The romance isn’t that loving like Barfi.

Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah stand out and deliver an ace. Hum Do Hamare Do is their story.

The supporting cast is a mix bag as well where Aparshakti Khurana just repeats himself, no matter what get up he gets.

On the other hand Manu Rishi Chadha is fantastic and Saanand Verma entertains in unnecessarily extra flashy characterization. Poor Prachee Shah Paandya gets very few lines to speak.

Final words

The primary cast - Rajkummar Rao, Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah holds our interest more than the subject.  Hum Do Hamare Do may not be the ideal family but its loving enough in the end to get the pyaar of its target audience who believe in love and family. Going with a generous three one whole extra for the ‘family’ streaming on Disney+Hotstar
