Meenakshi Sundareshwar movie review: Sanya Malhotra is charming throughout
What: Sanya Malhotra is charming throughout in Netflix’s decently pleasing romantic comedy by Vivek Soni co – starring Abhimanyu Dassani.
Meenakshi Sundareshwar movie synopsis
Set in Madurai, for everyone in the family of Tamil Brahmin Meenakshi (Sanya Malhotra) and Sundareshwar (Abhimanyu Dassani). Meenakshi and Sundareshwar are match made in heaven. The simile of the famous Hindu temple Meenakshi Sundareshwar that proudly holds the credit in Indian mythology for the divine marriage of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati is taken as a leaf to present the story in the modern urban context but ensuring the family traditions and culture are respected.
Soon after marriage Sundareshwar has to leave for Bengaluru for a job this forcing this traditional wedding into a long-distance relationship. What happens next.
She watches superstar Rajinikanth movie first day first show without fail. He is alien to the world of lights camera and action. Her food choices are sometimes surreal like Kari Dosa with Jigarthanda. He is an honest simple dude an engineer who desires to follow his own path rather than carrying on the age-old legacy of his family’s saree business.
Writer Director Vivek Soni with his co-writer Aarsh Vora make a safe slice of life family rom com that upholds the Indian custom and tradition comfortably with freshness in the approach that throws the typical typecasting and annoying south Indian accents we see normally on silver screen.
The subtle sly humour and that controlled OTT ode to Thalaiva – superstar Rajinikanth makes Meenakshi Sundareshwar a feel-good family romantic drama that has good people with acceptable flaws carrying good vibes.
Writer Director Vivek Soni doesn,t break any moulds and sticks to the format of an Indian family rom com and remarkably manages to bring smiles from time to time. Imagine those happy family times of movies starring Amol Palekar coming with an added gloss of a Dharma production and Rajinikanth sorry superstar Rajinikanth. Meenakshi Sundareshwar is an amalgamation of all these.
Sanya Malhotra sways like a charming joy throughout. She is strikingly bright, vibrant and effortlessly chameleon in her performance. An example of effortless brilliance.
Abhimanyu Dassani is endearing to the core, an example of perfect casting and in sync with the character with ease.
Debojeet Ray’s eye pleasing and vibrant camera work Justin Prabhakaran music goes with the flow, Tittar Bittar is the best of the lot.
Visually beautiful, charming and emotionally moving Meenakshi Sundareshwar is a feel-good family rom com lead by an endearing Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani. Going with a generous 3.5 an extra for Sanya Malhotra.
