The next season of Netflix’s phenomenal global bumper hit Squid Game is definitely on.

According to reports, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed the plans to the Associated Press at a screening and Q&A in Los Angeles for the Korean drama.

“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So, I almost feel like you leave us no choice!” Hwang told the Associated Press on the Monday night red carpet.

“But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”

However, the creator of the most talked about series didn’t give any details and added that Netflix hasn’t made any official announcement yet.

But Hwang confirmed that lead actor Lee Jung-jae will return as main character Seong Gi-hun.

Squid Game also known as Round six, created a wave globally. The South Korean survival drama television series on Netflix is created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, who wrote and directed all nine episodes.

The cast includes Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, Jung Ho-yeon, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung.

The series revolves around a contest where 456 players, all of whom are in deep financial debt, risk their lives to play a series of deadly children's games for the chance to win a ₩45.6 billion prize. The title of the series draws from a similarly named Korean children's game.

Squid Game was released worldwide on September 17, 2021, to phenomenal response from audience and critics worldwide.

It is Netflix's most-watched series to date, reaching the top-viewed program in 94 countries, and attracting more than 142 million member households during its first four weeks from launch, surpassing 2020's Bridgerton.
