Aga Aai Aaho Aai review: A Heartfelt Gem On Motherhood
‘Aga Aai Aaho Aai’ – A mother is a mother – this beautiful message lovingly gets delivered in Marathi Z5’s heartfelt gem on motherhood helmed by Varun Narvekar starring Renuka Shahane, Nirmiti Sawant, Hruta Durgule and Suyog Gorhe.
Shreya (Hruta Durgule) and Anish (Suyog Gorhe) are just married couples living by themselves. Shreya’s mother Janaki (Renuka Shahane) is not very comfortable by the fact that her daughter is in a warm cordial relationship already with her mother-in-law Sunita (Nirmiti Sawant). Shreya’s mother – in – law also treats her like a daughter. This heart-warming maa beti kind of relationship between a bahu and her sasu maa serves as the series greatest USP that teases the general traditional mindset and practice amongst women where a sasu maa keeps complaining about her bahu and bahu keeps complaining about her always nagging sasu maa in their circles. This saas bahu tussle has always provided good muscle to various soap opera’s on TV, in films and a never-ending topic of gossips amongst woman in real.
So, instead of a war between a saas and her bahu it’s their understanding and camaraderie in ‘Aga Aai Aaho Aai’ that catches the eyeballs and wins hearts by doing so.
Kalyani Pandit deserves praise for panning a screenplay that comes straight out of a Maharashtrian middle class household, director Varun Narvekar’s narration is flowing like water that keeps the aesthetics of Marathi culture and milieu – the mention of thikhat (very spicy) Kolhapuri missal and the relishing Puneri bhel is an example.
Filled with charming, touchy and heartfelt moments taken from every day life, we see Shreya though not a big fan of cultural festivals and functions finds way to enjoy it and she always due to her nature lands into trouble but she has the two ‘double engine’ moms – maa and sasu maa to rescue her.
But hold on, that doesn’t mean that the newly wed sunbai (bahu aka daughter – in law) is having all the fun, her navra (husband) - Suyog Gorhe also gets his share and chance for those maa and sasu maa moments.
I was not happy with the ending as my dil was yearning for more (maybe season 2 is on cards) but overall ‘Aga Aai Aaho Aai’ is charmingly, pleasant watch with your family.
Performances are top notch where Hruta Durgule is perfect in her role.
Nirmiti Sawant is so adorable.
Renuka Shahane is a fabulous as a mom that every child wants.
Suyog Gorhe as the son is very good.
Aga Aai Aaho Aai review – final words
At times when the OTT space is filled with series involving dysfunctional family, love stories that don’t support the institution of marriage, extra martial affairs, violence, gore etc. ‘Aga Aai Aaho Aai’ is a reminder that Indians where ever they are always yearned for a family that gets ‘joint’ed by affection and heartfelt emotion, they may stay away but are never away from heart and memories.
Going with a loving three and a half stars out of five (3.5/5)
