Good Bad Girl Review

The show is just like it's title. The bad parts are quite overcome by the good elements.

 

The best thing in Good Bad Girl, the 9 episode web series created by Vikas Bahl, is its protagonist, Maya Ahuja, a lawyer who is an incorrigible and impulsive lier. During her law entrance intrerview, when she us asked why she wants to become a lawyer, she responds, " mujhe na jhooth bolne bada accha lagta hai"

 

Samridhi Dewan plays Maya with a naughty and haughty elan, inhabits her world of twisted truths and lies navigating her childhood and youth with aplomb.

 

She says Sach aur Jhooth are two sides of the same coin. She is bold and brash, her unsolicited repartee at the judge leads to her revocation of her practitioner license, and she evens bears the brunt of her boss( played by Gulpanaag) and the smug grin on her colleague's face( Vaibhav Raj Gupta) whom she can't stand!

 

When this misdemeanor maligns her firm's reputation, she is threatened to be fired but she cleverly resorts to lies, revealing to her boss that she has breast cancer.What follows thereafter is a series of cover ups, with brief interludes of her quirky childhood and crazy past.

 

Good Bad Girl is funny, bitchy and sometimes dark but problematic. It never takes itself seriously.I sank into tedium after watching a couple of episodes.It gives us a feisty protagonist but a classic case of frivolous writing.Bahl and director Abhishek Sengupta surround her with a talented ensemble - Gulpanag as her tough boss, Vaibhav as her sardonic work-cabin competitor and Sheeba Chaddha as her mother.

 

But Good Bad Girl could have been much more. Despite an earnest and confident Dewan who doesn't leave any stone unturned to portay the bold and unconventional Maya, the show doesn't soar too high.
