Hello Bachchon review: Why a filmy cookie cutter representation to a clutter-breaking Indian?!

‘Hello Bachhon’ – released on Netflix is an example on how to almost spoil the inspiring real-life story of a clutter breaking Indian on screen by adapting a filmy cookie cutter approach.

Created by Abhishek Yadav and directed by Pratish Mehta, ‘Hello Bachhon’ is based on the life of Physics Wallah (PW) cofounder, YouTuber and EdTech star Alakh Pandey, the TVF is the production behind this five-episode series.

The team of screenwriters that includes the director as well - Abhishek Yadav, Vernaali, Ankit Yadav and Sandeep Singh Rawat sprinkle everything – a filmy masala about underage daily labors in remote India coming together to break that ‘Deewar’ (the shackle/boundary) for a better life with education, the hiccups of funding, the technical glitches, server issues in the institution, plus other examples and of course the protagonist - Alakh Pandey’s brief history on becoming a physics teacher.

Coming to the examples – two boys working as daily laborers studying in a government school and getting punished almost daily. One of the friends Bhola (Satendra Soni) comes across the video of Alakh Sir asking to get enrolled at a fee of around four thousand rupees per year. Bhola embarks on a journey to ensure quality education to his dear friend.

From the hinterland to the slums of Navi Mumbai a young glue addicted boy working in a local factory Aditya More (Divesh) discovers his path through Alakh Sir’s tutorials.

From the Navi Mumbai slums to the traditional Indian patriarchy family where a school topper Tripti Dahiya (Samta Sudiksha) with the help of her male competitor Ankit Yadav (Varun Buddhadev) gets into contact with Alakh Sir’s tutorial and her life changes.

A story of a wannabe cricketer and from the motivation to the shocking deadly devastation caused by the killing pressure to crack the JEE ad everything revolves around Alakh Sir’s determination and believe that education is a necessity not a privilege.

The core idea inspires in spite of its routine, cookie cutter, filmy treatment, the supporting cast provides more power than the lead played by Vineet Kumar Singh who is good but fails to meet that requirement that sweeps the audience.

Vikram Kochhar, Girija Oak, Satendra Soni, Samta Sudiksha, Aditya More, Varun Buddhadev, Manoj Joshi are competent.

The inspiring story of Alakh Pandey who fought the commercialization of the education system and corporatization of the institute of education needed a better layered execution not a filmy, routine presentation which may please the commercial aspects and attract the aam junta but misses the much important debate on education.

Hello Bachchon review - final words

Now, the irony can be read between the lines – I sincerely believe ‘Hello Bachhon’ is not intended to be a show reel/digital brochure based on the life of Physics Wallah (PW) cofounder, YouTuber and EdTech star Alakh Pandey, but at a couple of times it did gave me that impression.

The TVF created 5-episode series must be finding takers and inspiring people but I wanted it to be in a more profound manner not a filmy manner.

Going with three stars out of five an extra for its core belief and idea about education.

Hello Bachhon is streaming on Netflix from March 06, 2026.
