Hostel Daze season 3 review: ploughs humor and profanity in plenty

What: Hostel Daze season 3 - ploughs humor and profanity in plenty but also introspects on friends and relationships

OTT web series Hostel Daze season 3 synopsis

TVF Creation’s HOSTEL DAZE is a source of nostalgia – that takes every person back to his student life where a major chunk of it was spent in a hostel. It is rooted, intimate and charmingly relatable. Much aware about its potential success, the makers have realized that this has hit the right chord of the viewer’s heartstrings for its familiar content, playfulness and crackling humor.

The latest season promises equally to be a roller coaster ride, giving a glimpse in the life at an Indian college, the show features crazy hostelites - Akanksha (Ahsaas Channa), Chirag (Luv Vispute), Rupesh (Shubham Gaur), Jatin Kishore aka Jhantoo (Nikhil Vijay),  Nabomita (Ayushi Gupta), and Ankit (Utsav Sarkar) who are now in third year at engineering college and faced with new dramas and dilemmas.

Directed by Abhinav Anand and Sachin Negi, it shows that the now-seniors must figure out what they are good at and decide the direction they want to take their lives. Exploring new relationships, changing group dynamics, college elections, campus drama and more, Hostel Daze Season 3 takes the viewers on a journey filled with more chutzpah, comedy, and craziness.

OTT web series Hostel Daze season 3 review

What works best in the show are its crackling dialogues. Sample this – “Cryptocurrency ki block chain Hostel mein hi aavishkaar hui this, kyun ki yahan lending is not a favor, but a currency in whole” ! The comic banters and antics the friends, although overboard many a times, keep you thoroughly invested in the world that’s underlines the 3rd year of Engineering as a mid life crisis.

Abhinav conjures an intimate universe and puts his best foot forward to narrate this roller-coaster journey from a fresh perspective. With relatable storyline, character development and concept, Hostel Daze Season 3 promises to take viewers on a nostalgic sojourn to their college days. Be it the fear of exams or petty issues between the gang or the college politics, Hostel Daze Season 3 takes audiences back in time reminiscing those good old carefree days of college life.

The show starts off on a whacky note – Wing Chor! There is a thief who steals stuffs in the hostel wing and one of the guys has to get into the detective avatar to catch him. It breezily navigates through break ups and tussles, parties and the GISHA elections and to top it all, a drama competition in the final episode.

The jokes land, but you will also roll your eyes with a disbelief and scream – kuch bhi yaar ! I never imagined that making a drone would be so easy for the students!

What I loved here was the easy going camaraderie between the friends and some spontaneous performances.

Final words

Apart from the six friends, we also get to witness some epic punch lines from popular stand-up comics! These czars of comedy make guest appearances in the series - Late Raju Srivastava, Vipul Goyal, Sugandha Mishra, Kumar Varun, Karunesh Talwar and Gaurav Kapur, donning the hats of narrators, they not only tickle your funny bones but also mesmerize you with their storytelling skills. The friends are back to spread their insanity, this time, with triple the fervor! As the gang enters the third year, situations will get tougher, dramatic, emotional, crazier, and entertaining.

I go with 3.5 stars for HOSTEL DAZE Season 3. The series is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
