‘Vadhandhi Season Two—The Mystery of Mani’ (Rumour: The Mystery of Mani) – the second season of Tamil crime thriller series - ‘Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie Season 1’ ((Rumour: The Fable of Velonie) follows the familiar route of toxic media trials, false rumors and murder. However, creator and director Andrew Louis this time penetrates more into the minds and hearts of the viewers with a narrative that is layered with issues affecting the society.
‘Vadhandhi Season Two—The Mystery of Mani’ - SI Moosa Raaza (M. Sasikumar) gets posted in Madurai as his punishment posting and gets the responsibility to investigate a case which has become talk of the town. Skeletal remains have been found at a highway site. Sasikumar’s probe leads him to an elusive, silent prisoner named Mani. Things take a drastic turn and a web of mysteries gets unfold as Mani has disturbing secrets which he is unwilling to reveal. Pressure rises and Moosa a staunch Muslim who is feeling guilty of his past and not been able to give much time to his pregnant wife encounters shocks and unexpected surprises during the investigation.
‘Vadhandhi Season Two—The Mystery of Mani’ has enough twists and turns to compete with the tentacles of an octopus. Creator, writer and director Andrew Louis this time adds layers of friendship, love and bonding in ‘Vadhandhi Season Two—The Mystery of Mani’. The investigation by SI Moosa Raaza (nicely played by M. Sasikumar) opens up hidden facts and dangerous truth while he navigates between duty, morality, humanity, the good and the bad.
A popular Jallikattu player – Mani gets jailed and is proven guilty, the otherwise happy go lucky Mani who is about to marry the love of his life has gone mum. Andrew Louis tenderly observes the romance and giving a perfect tribute to the old school style slow burner story telling.
The rural aesthetics, the atmospheric tensions, the traditional games and festivals are nicely captured. The climax can challenge even the most astute viewer of the genre.
The tense mysterious atmosphere is maintained throughout without showing much blood and gore. The eight-episode series is technically sound with good production values, ‘Vadhandhi Season Two—The Mystery of Mani’ also boosts some fine performances
M. Sasikumar as SI J. Moosa Raaza as told earlier is decently subtle.
Yashwanth as Modakathaan Mani is quite natural.
Anagha Maruthora as SP Rathika Nair is perfect.
Aparna Das as Sumaya is good.
Revathy Sharma as Nilavathi is fantastic.
