Tere Ishk Mein review: Dhanush is all fire, Kriti Sanon is the fuel in this powerfully intense love story

‘Tere Ishk Mein’: Dhanush is intensity redefined and Kriti Sanon will be seen in her toughest role till date on silver screen in Aanand L. Rai’s twisted intense and powerful love story

Tere Ishk Mein movie synopsis

Following the sensibilities of the sensibilities of the 2013 super hit ‘Raanjhanaa’ in which Dhanush captured the hearts of audience in this part of India, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ is the story of Shankar (Dhanush) and Mukti (Kriti Sanon).

Shankar is a law student who believes in violence and the youth leader doesn’t even think a second before raising his hand and bashing his opponents. Mukti is doing her PHD in a rare subject, she believes violence can be removed from humans and Dhanush becomes her case study.

Feelings start getting developed and one day the world of Shankar and Mukti falls apart resulting in series of destruction, transformation, loss, guilt, pain, anger and much more.

Tere Ishk Mein movie review

‘Tere Ishk Mein’ is an intensely and violently blends love, innocence, anger, trust and the power of love which can be both uplifting and devastating, the thrilling ride is constantly moving under an undercurrent of emotions. The writers Himanshu Sharma (also the writer of ‘Raanjhanaa’) create an atmosphere which is familiar in such Indian/Bollywood love sagas but at the core is a character-driven love story that spirals into unexpectedly violent directions.

Mukti (Kriti Sanon) is a difficult and complex character who finds herself caught between practical and emotional choices, focused about her future life and career and willing to go at length to ensure that her thesis on violence gets the approval, when she chooses the innocent but violent Shankar for her case study, things started changing.

Now, at the face of it, it will seem as a love story or a rom com seen umpteen times but wait, the transformation of the prime characters – Dhanush and Mukti in due course plus the addition of father son and father daughter angle adds layers to the emotional turmoil which is strikingly and very effectively presented by director Aanand L. Rai in a gripping, involving narration that superbly uses A.R. Rahman’s BGM and Tushar Kanti Ray and Vishal Sinha’s excellent cinematography to mirror the changes in the state of their minds. As the movie progresses the visuals become more amplified, reflecting Shankar’s erratic behavior and Mukti’s dilemma, fear and confusion hinting about the possibility of more chaos to follow.

However, Aanand L. Rai in his indulgence in the last 25 – 30 minutes fumbles and fumbles in a big way, the movie nosedives and almost threatens to blow all the efforts into ashes and at times things are not at all convincing but sense prevails at the right time though a good bank for social memes had already been created, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ finally finds its ground.

Performances

Dhanush is extraordinary and he redefines intensity in this film. The transformation to the innocent but violent Shankar to Flight Lieutenant Shankar is amazing. After ‘Asuran’, ‘Karnan’, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ is another feather in Dhanush’s acting cap.

Kriti Sanon in perhaps her most challenging role as yet on the big screen and she delivers to the hilt.

Prakash Raj as Dhanush’s father in the film is fabulous.

Tota Roy Chowdhury as Kriti Sanon’s father is fantastic.

A cameo by Zeeshan Ayub is striking

Vineet Kumar Singh as Dhanush’s commanding officer leaves his mark.

Tere Ishk Mein movie review – final words

Overall, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ can be called ‘Raanjhanaa 2’ with more twist and aggression. ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ is an intriguing blend of love, innocence and the power of love that can be at times devastating and at times uplifting as well. Propelled by strong performances, despite its uneven moments, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ is an intense, ambitious and pious take on the power of love, the limits of loyalty, and the devastation of unchecked rage.

Going with a deserving 3.5 stars out of 5.

Produced by T-Series and Color Yellow and distributed by AA films, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ is releasing in theatres on November 28, 2025.
