‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’ – the centuries old adage ‘never judge a book by its cover’ applies to this 2025 mein release hui, 90’s wali Love Story that gives its tributes in bits and pieces to ‘DDLJ’, ‘Pardes’, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ in the award-winning Marathi director Sameer Vidwans (‘Time Pass’ and ‘Anandi Gopal’ fame) ki jubaani that comes with a ‘family’ twist in this mostly ‘familiar’ rom com.

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri review

Rehaan "Ray" Mehta (Kartik Aaryan) – the mellowed down bole toh sasta version of Rocky (Ranveer Singh) from ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ is a wedding planner no, no he is not that bread pakoda wala Ranveer from ‘Band Baja Baarat’ though his super mother aka ‘Wonder Woman’ Pinky Mehta (Neena Gupta) that’s what Ray calls his mom who always discuses vital pivotal issues with his son with a plate full of pakodas (to remove jitters have fritters) seems to be the mantra. However, Ray bumps into nai naveli lekhika (new born writer) Rumi Wardhan (Ananya Panday) and they both coincidentally land up in this picturesque land of thousand islands Croatia – wah what a place, just for its scenic beauty anybody will agree to act in a movie without even bothering about the script, story, character etc.

But, ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’ bole toh yani ki aka TMMTMTTM in short (yaar who finalized this banana numa title) has a story written by Karan Shrikant Sharma – boy the man has good range from ‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’ to Karenjit Kaur - The Untold Story of Sunny Leone to Anandi Gopal (2019) and TMMTMTTM moves from the known pehle takraar phir pyaar wala formula to something unexpectedly dramatic.

TMMTMTTM is no way ground breaking and the first half is all about how exotic and picturesque is Croatia and how lovely the costumes are styled (Ami Patel – fab job) and the movie makes repeatedly sincere efforts to convince us that Kartik Aaryan is super cool and has that handsome hunk vibe, honestly, he is good and cute but no way a lady killer like Ranbir, Ranveer or Sidharth Malhotra. Coming back to Tiwari ji aka Kartik and this love story, the second half is all drama, family, shaadi, naach gana, the things the Chopra’s, Johar’s, Barjatya’s and Bollywood in general is famous for.

Again those, colours, costumes and we even have a sangeet (of course why not) which gives tribute to all the DDLJ, Pardes, etc and its enjoyable.

So far so good, but for me the name of the director Sameer Vidwans makes me worry. He is capable of much better than this. The humour is hit and miss and the way the emotions come up it’s not that convincing. But the real fun comes from the character who plays Tiku Talsania’s wife, her moments with Kartik Aaryan are real fun.

The chemistry between Kartik and Ananya is adorable.

TMMTMTTM may bring smile to your face if you are not expecting much. The performances are top rated. Kartik is in his element and full form. Ananya Panday is fantastic. Neena Gupta is fine. Jackie Shroff is very good. Good support comes from Tiku Talsania, Chandni Bhabhda as Jia Ananya’s younger sister.

Music is also a letdown, Viju Shah’s iconic saath samundar seems like madari without a bandar - matlab fails to make the desired impact.

TMMTMTTM looks gorgeous thanks to Anil Mehta’s eye-popping visuals. Editing by Manan Mehta is decent.

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri movie review – final words

‘TMMTMTTM’ is a passable rom com that comes with a good message, it does attempts in trying to put forward the importance and value of family with its share of laughter, tears and drama.

To be honest, I was not expecting this impact after watching the trailer when I entered the auditorium to watch this film.

So, I go with three stars out of five. (3/5)
