Avatar: Fire and Ash Review: The Most Spectacular Spectacle

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ – the master, the maverick James Cameron has been at his best when it comes to sequels – ‘Terminator’, ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’, ‘Avatar’, ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’, this time the world has the golden chance to experience the master filmmaker’s part three with ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’. Does James Cameron is able to fulfill all the huge expectations with his third chapter of ‘Avatar’ – ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, let’s find out.

Avatar: Fire and Ash movie synopsis

‘Avatar: Fire And Ash’ can also be said as the sequel of the sequel – part 2 of ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’. It begins from where ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ ended. Neteyam (Jeremy Irwin), the eldest son of the Sully family, is dead. Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) is down in her grief. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is showing less remorse and concentrating on other issues. Jake and Neytiri kids - Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), Tuk (Trinity Jo-Li Bliss), miracle-child Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), and abandoned human Spider (Jack Champion) are trying to cope from the loss of Neteyam. Lo’ak, blames himself for the Neteyam’s death. Amidst this a fresh threat arrives as Colonel Miles Quaritchin (Stephen Lang) teams up with Varang (Oona Chaplin) - the Na'vi leader of the volcano-dwelling Mangkwan clan who hates the Mother Goddess of Pandora – Eywa.

Avatar: Fire and Ash Movie Review

James Cameron along with his writers - Rick Jaffa (story and screenplay), Amanda Silver (story and screenplay), Josh Friedman (story), Shane Salerno (story) gets more ambitious at one hand and on the other hand has the urge to hang on to the nostalgic Pandora lore and Way Of Water atmosphere. ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ in its philosophy is complicated while in comparison the philosophy of ‘Way of Water was very clear. As a result, the middle act of ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ despite of its grand, incredible, absolutely jaw dropping visuals is not able to entirely hold the audience interest. Time and again a déjà vu of ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ is felt which may test your patience.

However, the three-hour seventeen minutes epic in its final third act which is of a duration of thirty plus minutes is a killer. Gigantic sea ships are smashed, tentacles flailing, arrows and gunfire fill the sky, truly Mind-blowing stuff with goosebumps and huge adrenaline jolts.

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is the most action packed and pulse rising chapter in James Cameron’s reportedly five-part movie series.

Pure brilliance in cinematography by Russell Carpenter, superb music by Simon Franglen, master editing by the team of editors - Stephen E. Rivkin, David Brenner, Nicolas de Toth, John Refoua, Jason Gaudio and James Cameron. The production designing by Dylan Cole and Ben Procter is mesmerizing. Set decoration by Vanessa Cole is fabulous. Technically ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is nothing short from a masterpiece.

Performances

Sam Worthington as Jake Sully is excellent once again.

Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri is brilliant.

Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, is fabulous and has something special this time.

Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch is perfect in his villainy that comes with a couple of dashes of dark humour.

Oona Chaplin as Varang is the new addition and she is simply superb.

Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Britain Dalton as Lo'ak, Trinity Bliss as Tuk are quite good.

Jack Champion as Miles "Spider" Socorro is outstanding.

Kate Winslet as Ronal, a free diver of the Metkayina and Tonowari's wife is fantastic.

Avatar: Fire and Ash Movie Review – Final Words

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ – the third chapter in James Cameron ‘Avatar’ – the phenomenon that redefined the word spectacle on big screen may lack in the novelty quotient and may also seem to be repetitive but in fairness the benchmark set by James Cameron in ‘Avatar’ is unmatchable. Honestly as far as big screen spectacles are concerned who have the potential to be a blockbuster ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ has all the ingredients to please the mind, eyes and heart of the audience. Its again a display of mastery through a jaw dropping spectacle on big screen and on IMAX with 3D glasses on it’s a treat.

Going with four stars out of five for ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’.
