Atithi Bhooto Bhava movie review: A ‘spirit’ed love story

What: Atithi Bhooto Bhava – the Pratik Gandhi and Jackie Shroff starrer is a love story with ‘spirit’.

OTT movie Atithi Bhooto Bhava synopsis

Srikant Shirodkar (Pratik Gandhi) is a stand-up comedian who sometimes finds the applause while sometimes misses the mark. Srikant is in live in relationship with Netra Bannerjee (Sharmin Segal).

Srikant and Netra indulge in typical couple arguments every now and then. The reasons are also pale routine like Srikant forgetting Netra’s birthday and Netra blaming Srikant of taking her and their relationship for granted.

Ghar ghar ki kahaani but iss kahaani mein aa jaati hai ek rooh suhani… yes you guessed it right. A ghost named Makhan Singh (Jackie Shroff) enters their lives and asks Srikant – who he claims to be his Daarji (grandfather) in 1975 and reminds him of a promise made by him.

Then begins a unique road trip where Srikant, Netra, Makhan and Srikant’s colleague and standup comedian played by Divinaa Thackur begin from Mumbai to Mathura.

The journey becomes a learning experience in understanding love for everyone.

OTT movie Atithi Bhooto Bhava review

Learn how to carry your timeless charm from Jackie Shroff, learn how a Guajarati can pull a veteran Sardarji with such simplicity from Pratik Gandhi.

Atithi Bhooto Bhava directed by Hardik Gajjar (the interesting Bhavai previous) on a story by Aniket Wakchaure and screenplay by Pradeep Srivastava, Shreyas Anil Lowlekar and Deepak Panth is a journey of love by spirit.

The setting is not routine, a love story panning generations after generations of a Sikh Sardar in Mathura. But the treatment is routine, tried and tested. Novelty is missing and moments that will stay along are absent.

Still, the concept and its spiritual turn during the last 30 minutes plus the pleasing camaraderie between Jackie Shroff and Pratik Gandhi makes you sit through the very end.

Some questions like daarji (grandfather) and grandson share a great relationship in 1975 agreed. Father/mother are not seen but we don’t mind.

But what connects the family of the Marathi standup comedian Srikant Shirodkar with the Sardarji Makhan Singh from Mathura is your guess. Keep guessing.

It’s a flaw as deep as the Indian Ocean.

Apart from Jackie Shroff’s impeccable charm laced with such effortlessness and simplicity and Pratik Gandhi’s refined honesty and spontaneity, the girls Sharmin Segal, and Divinaa Thackur perform very well.

I just loved the last frame.

Final words

Atithi Bhooto Bhava is harmless entertainer it can bring smiles at certain places provided you sit without any expectations. Going with a generous three. Ek Bharatwasi ki mehman nawazi bole toh hospitality keh lijiye.
