What: Apharan 2 review - the quintessential reign of the cop universe, 'Dabangg' and 'Singham' in the OTT space is good entertainment and fun.

OTT web series Apharan 2 review

The previous season of Apaharan had ended on a cliffhanger, with the rowdy and instinctive cop, Rudra Srivastav (Arunoday Singh) fighting against all odds and also discovering the mentality of criminals and uncovering some hard truths.

In collaboration with Ekta Kapoor and Jio Studios, Apharan 2 attempts to enthrall the audience and keep them on edge-of-the-seat with trailblazing drama, thrill, crime, action all wrapped into a wholesome affair.

As India’s terrific cop Rudra sets out this time, in the second installment of the series, helmed by Sidharth Sen Gupta, we see him embark on a dreadful mission to kidnap a criminal mastermind Bir Bahadur Singh who has sinister plans of eliminating the nation from the world map.

The fast-paced series shifts most of its action to Serbia from Haridwar, with Rudra, who is in desperate need of money to cure his addict wife, Ranjana (Nidhi Singh) despatched by RAW in an undercover operation. He is accompanied by BC Aunty (Snehil Dixit Mehra is a real hoot) this time who promises generous doses of laughter despite the fact that the writing team (Mohinder Pratap Singh, Varun Badola) garnish the narrative abundantly with cuss words.

Staying faithful to its tagline, "Sabke Katega Phirse", the show constituting of episodes each of 30 minutes runtime, ensures a double edge-of-the-seat drama, thrills and 'masaledaar' action, with a heady cocktail of revenge and passion.

Much of its proceedings are buoyed by a talented star cast that includes the quirky Saanand Verma, playing Dubey, the man in search of a quick solution to his diminishing libido. His chance encounter with Rudra lends a hilarious angle to the show. The characters from season One seamlessly resonate with the theme of this series.

At the helm of affairs is Arunoday Singh who embodies the rogue spirit of Rudra in the truest sense. He is tough, bold yet vulnerable when it comes to the love of his life. His chemistry with Nidhi Singh exudes an effortless romantic vibe and is one of the core strengths of the series.

Singh is confident in action as well as his diction in the Bhojpuri accent. You can safely call Rudra the 'Chulbul Pandey' or 'Rowdy Rathore' of the small screen. His daring is raw and unbridled. It was also a pleasure to watch Jeetendra in a cameo!

Final Words

I enjoyed this season of Apaharan. It’s the quintessential reign of the cop universe, 'Dabangg' and 'Singham' in the OTT space.

The 11-episode series is streaming on Voot Select from 18th March 2022.
