The Family Man 3 Review: Roller-coaster ride in the verdant North East!

The Family Man Season 3’ is sheer adrenaline rush and this time the stakes get ultra-high, throbbingly geo-political and piercingly personal.

 The Family Man 3 synopsis

The geo-political tension in the North-Eastern part of India has caught the fascination of many filmmakers and this time, its Raj and DK. The esteemed creators of ‘The Family Man’, pit their protagonist and star agent of TASC, Shrikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee) against a ruthless and formidable adversary, Rukma (Jaideep Ahlawat) operating under the payroll of Meera Eston ( Nimrat Kaur) whose sinister ambitions involve hampering a peace accord named, Project Sahakar, between Indian government and Nagaland, to restore prosperity and emphasize progress in the disturbed region.

Trouble and tension escalate when Shrikant and his NIA boss, Kulkarni sir (Dalip Tahil) get subjected to lethal damages unleashed by Rukma after meeting the Naga leader, David Khuzou, who is upset with his own grandson and a military leader, Stephen, for the contrasting ideologies. Things ramify to a state where Shrikant is slammed the infamous tag of a traitor and now in run with his endangered family, comprising wife Shuchi (Priyamani), daughter and son, played by Ashlesha Thakur and Vedant Sinha respectively, along with his friend-in-need, JK (the reliable Sharib Hashmi).

The Family Man 3 Review

North-east is a tricky area. The complex and the incomprehensible nature of the socio-political landscape, the military tension and drug menace has eluded the acumen of many filmmakers, including Anubhav Sinha, whose ‘Anek’, was a debacle. Raj and DK, are intelligent storytellers who chose to exploit the NE as a backdrop for a plot that hops between London, Islamabad, New Delhi, Myanmar and the north-east regions covering Kohima and Manipur and shapes as a prudent thriller encompassing moles, mission and misery.

Aiding their pursuit in this seven-part series are directors Sumit Arora and Tusshar Seyth who elevate the action and urgency with hike-stakes personal vendetta. Bajpayee cuts a realistic figure as the iconic spy, but saddled with woes, both professional and personal. He’s a man who exudes grit and commitment without a hint of brawny machismo. His funny, silly and swear-soaked banters with Sharib Hashmi are a treat to watch. As the inherently techno-dimwit who would mistake FWB as Family wala Guy and rather rave about his dating escapades during deadly missions and busting deceits and double-crosses, Hashmi’s JK is a source of dopamine that TMF heavily relies on.

But the writing fumbles when it comes to the PMO machinery – comprising Seema Biswas as the PM Buzdil Basu, Vipin Sharma as Sambeet and Aditya Srivastava as Yeshwant, the team is more drawn to social media and rhetoric, rather than real action. A very weakly etched character, Basu would scream “Yeh Kursi sirf meri hai” and verbally assault her team, which doesn’t do justice to Seema’s stature.

Leaving aside these trifles, TMF3 soars with slick editing, solid BGM and a quirky crossover that shows up during episode six. At one point, we see four subplots running in parallel – Zoya (Shreya Dhanwantary) with SIT Chief, Yatish, Tiwari and his family under the support of Saloni (Gul Panag), Nimrat and Jaideep and the PMO. It is racy, pacy and rushes adrenaline into your arteries. The show gets little unsure with the shifting dynamics between Jaideep and Nimrat, who play cut-throat, remorseless and unapologetic antagonist figures driven by the lust for power and money.

The Family Man Season 3 review – final words

Raj and DK are more sorted in offering inconclusive ending to their audience (like they did in Last year’s ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’) and leave them speculating in their realms of their own interpretations

The Family Man Season 3, is composed of seven episodes, and is streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 21st November 2025.
