Shot over the last one year, Raja Shivaji was filmed across historic and scenic locations including Wai, Mahabaleshwar, Satara, Mumbai and several others. Monumental sets were erected and stood for over six months, crafted to reflect the scale, intensity, and grandeur of 16th century Maharashtra. Historic forts were extensively scanned, researched, and meticulously recreated down to the finest detail, ensuring an immersive and visually authentic experience that transports audiences into the world of the Maratha Empire.

The film promises never before seen action sequences and an immersive, VFX driven cinematic world, marking a first of its kind achievement for Marathi cinema. With its technical scale and storytelling ambition, ‘Raja Shivaji’ is set to redefine benchmarks and reshape the future of the regional film industry. The project now moves into post-production. The film features an acclaimed creative team led by music composers Ajay–Atul and celebrated cinematographer Santosh Sivan, who makes his Marathi cinema debut.

Matching its epic vision is a powerhouse ensemble cast, bringing together some of the biggest names from Marathi and Hindi cinema, including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amol Gupte, Genelia Deshmukh, Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh along with a few exciting surprises that audiences will discover on the big screen.

Set against a backdrop of clashing empires and rising rebellions, ‘Raja Shivaji’ traces the extraordinary journey of a young Shivaji who defied formidable powers, became the revered Raja Shivaji, and laid the foundation for Swarajya. The film promises a visually rich and emotionally compelling experience crafted on a scale befitting the legacy it portrays.

Following Jio Studios’ ‘Dhurandhar’, ‘Raja Shivaji’ is poised to be another industry defining spectacle.

Presented by Jio Studios and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under the Mumbai Film Company banner, ‘Raja Shivaji’ is directed by Riteish Deshmukh and will release globally on May 1, 2026.
